Eating Out While On A Diet

Posted by Chris in Diet Tips, Weight Loss Tips on January 31st, 2009 |  No Comments »

Being on a diet doesn’t mean you have to be stuck at home eating pre-packaged diet foods.  You can go out for dinner with friends and not totally ruin your entire day by pigging out on the wrong foods.

When you go out, look over the menu closely.  Many restaurants have started offering low-fat, high protein, or healthier options.  (And you don’t have to just be stuck with a salad, although salads are always a good option!)  Look for that portion of the menu, or look for items that have an icon next to it that signifies a healthier option.

Avoid foods you know are bad.  If you go get burgers and fries, avoid the fries.  Get a side salad or mixed vegetables instead.  You can even order a baked potato as long as you avoid the butter and sour cream.  Also find out what options you have with the burgers you can order.  Do they offer turkey burgers?  Do they offer wheat buns?  Even if you do good with dinner, skip dessert.

Don’t order alcoholic drinks.  Alcohol contains a lot of sugar and empty calories.  You can do your diet a big favor by not drinking.

Skip the appetizer.  Rather than order a deep fried appetizer, order a salad to start.  This is actually a good idea for meals at home or at a restaurant because filling up on a good salad will keep you from pigging out on your main course.

With a little effort, you can easily go out to eat.  You can have a great time without worrying about your diet or making it abundantly clear that you are on a diet.  These little tips can help you maintain your diet without bringing a lot of attention to it.  And who knows, you’re good choices may inspire your friends to do the same!
