The Blood Type Diet Review
“The blood type diet revolves around the idea that peoples different blood has its own unique antigen marker, and this marker identifies different foods as “alien” within your body resulting in a variety of health problems”
The Blood Type Diet is created by a naturopath by the name of Dr Peter D’Adamo. The diet claims that by eating certain foods based on your blood type can help you feel more energetic, healthier and lower your risk of a variety of diseases. The diet has been a big hit with certain hollywood stars that all sing its praises, including Courtney Cox and Elizabeth Hurly.
It is the belief of this diet that depending on your blood group your body will contain different antigens which react differently to different types of food. If you eat the wrong food for your blood type your body will react negatively resulting in an increase in health problems and weight. The diet also believes there is a correlation between your blood type and your digestive system and that by eating foods correct for your blood type results in your body being able to absorb nutrients from food more effectively meaning you need to eat less food to receive adequate nutrition.
Of course what’s another crazy diet without a new pseudo-science idea such as this one. Dr D’Amamo is of the belief that throughout history different blood types evolved at different times. Due to this fact we should only be eating the certain foods that was typical of what our ancestors ate during the time that the blood types evolved.
A quick overview of the different blood types will give you an idea of what you can eat.
Blood Group O
Blood group O is the most common blood type. Because our digestion track is linked to our ancestors this group should be heating a hunter gather type diet. This means eating a high protein diet consisting of meat and fish and low carbs, no dairy and no wheat or grains.
Blood Group A
Blood group A is the second most common blood group in America. Apparently blood group A evolved during the agricultural revolution where our ancestors ate little meat and ate large volumes of grains. Nuts, breads, cereals, pasta, fruit and veges and rice are on the things to eat list. Apparently the best type of exercise for this blood group iare calming exercises such as yoga.
Blood Group B
One in ten people have the blood type B, which is kind of unfortunate when apparently this blood type has the least diet restrictions. Apparently the blood type B evolved when our ancestors became nomadic, leaving the farm and eating a varied diet. It is this assumption that the diet of the B group is also varied. Avoid processed foods, eat small amounts of carbs and avoid seeds and nuts. Again for some reason this diet recommends exercise that includes a mental component such as tennis or hiking.
Blood Group AB
The rarest blood type. This diet consists of a mix of foods from blood group A and blood group B. Somewhat mystifying really, so you have to eat a vegetarian diet but eat meat and dairy. and do relaxing sports and go swimming.
The Blood Group Diet has been talked about by medically experts and appears to be agreed upon that their is no link between our blood group type and the diet that we should be eating.
This diet is based on fake science and is a little far fetched, if you follow this diet you may run the risk of not receiving adequate nutrition by limiting and avoiding certain food groups. Although the diet may sound scientific and seem to put a logical explanation forward the research is unfounded and there are far better diets and eating plans out their to help you lose weight.
