The Bread For Life Diet Review

Bread For Life“If you want to eat a whole loaf of bread everyday and run the risk of under nutrition then of course you can carry out this diet. ”

The Bread for Life Diet revolves around the premise that by eating a large quantity of bread everyday, will reduce your cravings for other foods and make sure you lose around 20 pounds in 8 weeks.

The Bread For Life Diet was created by an Israeli nutritionist by the name of Olga Raz. The main theory behind this diet is that carbohydrate when consumed in large quantities increases levels of serotonin within the body. Higher levels of serotonin have been found to reduce cravings and appetite.

Serotonin also plays a critical role in mood elevation and this diet states that by increasing your serotonin levels through bread intake you will become more happier, feel better and have more energy, this will keep you motivated to continuing to lose weight with the diet.

As you would have guessed, get prepared to eat a lot of sandwiches while on this diet. You will be eating up to 12 slices a bread per day for women and 16 per day for men. The diet does make a distinction between what breads you can and can't eat. Only light breads can be eaten, heavy breads which contain seeds and fruit have too many calories to make this diet work.

Whole grain bread is preferred and the inclusion of oats, brown rice and pasta can often be substituted when you get sick of sandwiches.

Some things you have to avoid include butter, sweet spreads and margarine, things like hummus and avocado. Things you can put on your sandwiches include tuna, salmon, low fat cheese, turkey and chicken. However meat is only allowed for 3 meals per week.

Almost all vegetables are allowed to be eaten and it is recommended to be eaten in large quantities s they are full of fiber and nutrients (which is nothing new of course). Vegetables can also be eaten as salads with cucumber, carrots, sprouts and tomatoes being good to consume.

Fruit can only be consumed in moderation due to its high sugar levels and Raz believes can be exempt for a healthy diet. If you wish to eat fruit you can but avoiding it would be better.

The science behind the carbs leading to an increase in serotonin and consequently reducing appetite is not as exactly as straightforward as the author of this diet would have you believe. Basing the majority of your diet around one type of food is a way to ensure that your missing out on a number of nutrients and essential minerals. Bread in this case is very high in carbs and fiber but has little else nutritional value.

I would not recommend this diet, in fact there has been many documented evidence that eating extremely high levels of carbohydrates can have the exact opposite effect of what this diet implies.
