Wow, who would have thought that a fad diet could be misleading. In fact the Mayo Clinic Diet doesn’t come from the Mayo Clinic at all. Once again dieters are faced with some misleading facts that they can eat whatever they want and as long as they east some grapefruit before there meal they will lose weight.

The diet consists of mainly eating eggs meat and grapefruit with some thrown in vegetables. It lets the dieter indulge in high fat foods and as much as they like. Sounds like a dream come true for many. It would be if it actually worked.

Of course right from the start this diet sounds too amazing to be true. As much meat at every meal as you want with unlimited amounts of vegetables and whatever salad dressing you want. Where does the weight loss part start? Unfortunately drinking grapefruit juice and eating grapefruit will not help you lose weight if the rest of your diet is unhealthy.

Even if the grapefruit fat burning ability is correct this diet way to unbalanced to be classed as a long term weight loss solution. Foods high in unhealthy fats and fried foods are associated with an increase in ones risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Of course trading your health like this to drop a few pounds is a ridiculous concept and is not recommended to anyone. Eating meals with large portions of food is also not a great idea when trying to be healthy and to lose weight.

This diet from a nutritional view is unacceptable and it also encourages over eating. Please avoid this diet and focus on a eating plan that gives you nutrition, health and real weight loss.
