Ahh, another diet that the celebrities have made famous. Of course its super trendy to be in the zone as well as being in the company of the stars. The Zone Diet is a great sounding name and the company behind it have done some fantastic marketing.
One of the main reasons this diet has become so much of a success is they have had exposure through the use of diet food delivery companies who now include Zone Diet meals on their menu. Of course it would be nice if we could all afford this kind of expense for all our meals.
The Zone Diet focuses on eating the classic mix of foods that are low in fat such as fish or chicken, low fat cheeses , vegetables, fruit and olive oil. The “Zone” as this diet explains is the ability for your body to achieve a state of balance, particularly with your hormones such as insulin, this allows your body to operate more efficiently, meaning better assimilation and elimination of your food. Dieters are encouraged to eat non starchy raw vegetables (a good thing), small amounts of protein, carbs and mono saturated fats in order to curb hunger.
The upside to this diet is that it restricts the intake of highly refined carbohydrates. As you are probably all aware, the more processed and refined the foods usually the worse for you they are. Nonetheless, the American Heart Association does not back the Zone Diet, saying it lacks certain essential nutrients, may be too high in protein and they are unsure about its long term implications. It is a quick fix diet and exercise is not really in the picture due to the low level of calories consumed.

This is okay if you are getting your meals delivered, however, for the average dieter this is hard, annoying and time consuming. Many people find they are constantly hungry on this diet.
